Our Mission

South Street Dance is the premier performing arts school in New Jersey featuring a varied curriculum of musical theatre, acting, singing, dancing and private study for students of all ages and skill levels.

Programs are offered for students of every need. For those students pursuing professional careers, SSD also offers audition-only classes, musical theatre companies, on-camera training, audition preparation, and connections with top Agents and Managers in the industry.

We will help build your child’s confidence in a fun, positive and nurturing environment while exposing them to all aspects of the stage from beginner to advanced levels.

Our certified teachers are energetic industry professionals, many traveling from NYC, who will help each student achieve his or her personal best.

Whether it is preparation for a life on the stage or help through a new stage of life, South Street Dance has what you need.

Our Staff


Annie Forgione, Annie Forgione, owner and artistic director, has been teaching theatre and voice for more than 15 years. She holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre, and is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association. Annie’s students have been seen on Broadway, National Tours, Television, and Film. As a director, favorite credits include The Wizard of Oz, and I Remember Mama, during her years as Drama and Acting teacher at Bernards High School. She has worked extensively as a performer in numerous productions in the NY/NJ area, in addition to commercial/ voice overs for companies such Coca- Cola, Met- Life and General Motors.


Steven Bednasz is the current musical director at Annie's Playhouse. He has worked professionally as an MD for many productions including Forever Plaid in Provincetown, Parade at NYU Tisch, and numerous venues around NYC and Buffalo, NY where he grew up. He also is an avid pianist/accompanist having played for The Princess Grace Awards hosted by Larry King, rehearsals for The Rocky Horror Show benefit performance at the American Airlines Theatre starring Neil Patrick Harris and has worked with Billy Crystal, Emily Skinner and Kate Shindle as well. Steven is a performer too, having been in productions of The Wild Party, Anything Goes, and Working, among others. He currently resides in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU with a BFA in Drama.


Katie McShane is the current manager, and head of the Acting program at Annie’s Playhouse. She has worked with theatre companies such as Fun Arts, W.I.L.L, the Acting Troupe, and WIRED. Some of her favorite roles include Miss Hannigan in Annie, and Sandy in Grease (a Fun Arts production). She has been teaching voice, piano and acting for 10 years. She is excited to share her love for acting and musical theatre with kids and adults of all ages.


Emily Frank has had a passion for dance and theatre all her life. She began taking dance classes at age 5 and has been dancing ever since! She attended Somerset County Votech for dance performance, and continued to study dance in college under the innovative Randy James of Rutgers. She is trained in a variety of techniques, including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and modern. Emily’s choreography has been featured in many venues including the 92Y Harkness Dance Center in NYC, and the National High School Dance Festival in Miami. Emily is proud to contribute to the positive and nurturing environment at South Street Dance, where dancers and performers of all ages can grow!


Meredith Jordan has enjoyed the art of performing for over twenty years. She also has a background in competitive gymnastics, and was a state champion, holding the title on the balance beam at the age of twelve. She has enjoyed managing and teaching at the recently opened, Shooting Stars Gymnastics, located next to Annie’s Playhouse. Meredith also danced as a member of the New York Jets Flight Crew Cheerleaders for several years. With the New York Jets, she has shot national televised shows, performed at various charity events and interviewed for such networks as Fox NFL Sports Mexico. Meredith has had extensive training in all styles of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, modern, pointe, hip hop and lyrical. She loves being a part of the Annie's Playhouse team and continues to enjoy teaching children and adults the art of performing!


Kenny Zinkevich is a drummer, guitarist, bassist, and pianist. He has been studying and playing these instruments since he was seven years old and has over sixteen years of performance experience. He began teaching privately while studying music and film in college. He graduated with a B.A. from Rowan University and is excited to share his passion of music at Annie's Playhouse.

Kara Wilson is a music, acting, and musical theatre teacher at South Street Dance and Annie's Playhouse. She has been performing and teaching for over ten years. She has a Bachelors of Science in Educational Theatre from NYU with minors in Music and Dramatic Literature. Kara has worked as the Operations Manager at Union County Performing Arts Center, and while in the position started up their education programming for toddlers, teens, and adults. She has also worked in many theaters in New York as a performer, teacher, and administrative personnel, including TADA! Youth Theater, the Snapple Theatre, and MCC Youth Company. Her favorite roles include Fanny the Flamingo in Piggy Nation the Musical (Snapple Theatre), Diana in Next to Normal (NYU Black Box), as well as several roles in local community theaters. She is a trained singer of seven years, and competed and qualified as a finalist in Fearless Icon in 2014, as well as having sung in Piazzale degli Uffizi in Florence, Italy.

The South Street Dance Semester Internship Program offers experience in all aspects of dance education and training. Our programs run from January to April in our Spring semester, May to August in our Summer semester, and September to December in our Fall semester.
